February 2026 – Gonzales Healthcare Systems today announced it has been recognized as a 2026 Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital by The Chartis Center for Rural Health. The Top 100 awards program celebrates outstanding performance annually among the nation’s rural hospitals based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®.
Brandon Anzaldua, Chief Executive Officer at Gonzales Healthcare Systems commented, “Gonzales Healthcare Systems staff, physicians, and board strive for excellence every day. We received this award because you allowed us to serve you, and we are truly grateful. We remain committed to delivering quality patient care and carrying this momentum forward through 2026 and beyond. Thank you!”
“The delivery of care within rural communities is perhaps more complex today than at any point in recent memory. This year’s Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals have emerged as true leaders – committed to their mission through a powerful combination of resilience, dedication and innovation,” said Michael Topchik, Executive Director of The Chartis Center for Rural Health. “We’re delighted to recognize this year’s winners and celebrate their Top 100 status.”
Now in its 16th year, the INDEX is the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance. Leveraging publicly available data, the INDEX is utilized nationwide by rural hospitals, health systems with rural affiliates, hospital associations, and state offices of rural health to measure and monitor performance across a variety of areas impacting hospital operations, quality, patient perspective and finance.
Gonzales Healthcare Systems is made up of a number of entities, but at the core is Memorial Hospital, a general acute-care facility offering 28 beds for patient care. The current facility, built in 1978, follows a tradition of community service begun by the Holmes Hospital, which opened in 1921.
Whether entering the system through our Emergency Room, with its Trauma Level IV designation, or as a direct admit from a primary care physician’s office, patients coming to Memorial Hospital can access state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic services.
Additional services provided by Gonzales Healthcare Systems include three rural health clinics, surgical clinic, laboratory, radiology, occupational health services, and physical, occupational, and speech therapies. Our hospital facility includes medical/surgical floor, labor & delivery, surgery, and emergency department. We also offer THRIVE Healthplex for your fitness needs.
