“When it’s time for my mammogram, there’s no other place I’d rather be.”

—Joyce Wilson

Even since she had her first mammogram seven years ago, Joyce Wilson has always trusted Gonzales Healthcare Systems. “The whole radiology department is awesome,” says Joyce, who is a truancy officer for the Gonzales Independent School District. “They always call to remind me of my next appointment, and every time I’m there, the staff is so friendly and makes me feel very comfortable.”

When Joyce visits the Jane Johnson Women’s Imaging Center at Gonzales Healthcare Systems, she benefits from the hospital’s state-of-the-art 3D mammography technology, which can also take standard 2D images. Combining a 3D mammogram with a standard 2D mammogram reduces the need for follow-up imaging, improves breast cancer detection in dense breast tissue, and detects slightly more cancer than a standard mammogram alone.

Last year, the Women’s Imaging Center performed more than 1,500 mammograms. It also offers ultrasound breast-specific imaging, a sentinel node biopsy used to determine if a breast tumor has spread, and a team that includes radiologists, technologists and a specialized breast surgeon.

Joyce also trusts Gonzales Healthcare Systems to take care of her family. “My three children had asthma attacks  when they were growing up,” Joyce explains. “Gonzales Healthcare Systems was there for them every time. It’s a great facility with wonderful people. I’m so glad it’s part of our community.”
